Dog Toys For Aggressive Chewers
Although domesticated, dogs are basically wild animals. They may have forgotten some of their wild ways, but their primeval instincts still are intact. One thing that domestication has not changed about dogs is their inclination towards chewing. Dog toys are an effective way for dogs to gratify their chewing urges before they start gnawing your furniture. In fact, when dogs get toys to chew, they become less irritable and more friendly. However, dogs of different breeds require toys of different hardness. The dogs can become so adamant about their preferences that they may refuse to chew toys that don’t meet their softness or hardness preferences.
Then there are the aggressive chewers. These dogs are not satisfied by just nibbling at something, they like chewing aggressively and most toys end up getting ripped apart in no time at all. Dog toys don’t come very cheap and if your dog destroys a toy everyday, it can get quite difficult to manage. One solution to get around this problem is to buy harder toys made of plastic or stiff rubber that can survive your dog’s malignance for a long time before finally breaking. These toys however do not really satisfy a dog’s urge since dogs like to chew things that are bendable and not as hard as a rock.
One might think of this is as a paradox – a soft toy that is also durable. While not perfect, many companies have come up with just such a dog toy. These toys are made using fiber materials that are strong and still bendable. The materials are non-toxic and hence do not affect a dog’s health adversely. One thing you need to ensure before buying such a toy is that it should have been made in the US or Europe. Another kind of toys are those that are made with a durable material with soft rubber chew-points. These are also quite durable and can satisfy even the most demanding of canines.
The strong yet chewable toys are certainly durable but still not indestructible. If you have a particularly demanding pooch, it is advised to keep a few extra toys of the same type at hand as once a toy is destroyed your dog may not adapt to a toy of different kind. Also, there is no reason to get alarmed if your dog gets too aggressive while playing with the toy, after all the very purpose of the toy is to direct your dog’s aggression towards the toy rather than at other human beings.
